May Day 2025: We Built This Country—Now We’re Taking It Back

Updated: Apr 30

🛠️ What Is May Day—and Why Do We March?

May Day (May 1) is International Workers’ Day—a global day of protest and celebration for working people. Its roots are American.

In 1886, workers in Chicago organized for an eight-hour workday. When police opened fire on peaceful demonstrators, killing several and sparking the Haymarket Affair, the movement didn’t die—it grew. May Day was born out of blood, solidarity, and the belief that working people deserve dignity, safety, and control over their own time.

Governments and corporations have tried to erase it. But in 2025, we remember exactly what it stands for:

  • Wages you can live on

  • Time off you can count on

  • Safety on the job

  • Protection from exploitation

  • A country that serves the people—not billionaires

That’s what we’re marching for. That’s what we’re building.

🧭 Why We March

  • Because wages are stagnant while billionaires double their wealth

  • Because the same forces defunding public schools are funding fascist coups

  • Because they’re counting on us to stay quiet, divided, and overwhelmed—and we’re not playing along
