This evening we’re holding a virtual candlelight vigil for Alex Pretti — a 37-year-old ICU nurse, U.S. citizen and Minneapolis resident who was shot and killed by federal agents during the immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis on Saturday. His death has sparked deep grief and outrage across Minnesota and beyond as communities demand accountability and an end to militarized federal policing.

A light can’t stop a bullet. Tonight isn’t about pretending it can. It is about finding each other, grieving in public and making clear that this violence will not be normalized.

Organizers in Minneapolis are calling for block-by-block candlelight vigils at 7:00 PM Central Time. (That means 8 PM our time.) They invite you to step outside, light a candle on your street corner or porch, and hold space for Alex, for our communities and for all who are hurting.

For those who cannot be outside with others, we are hosting this virtual vigil on Zoom: RSVP to receive the link. The event will open at 8 PM and the vigil will begin at 8:05 PM CT with a time for brief reflections, community connection and holding our candles together in shared witness.

This event is for everyone in solidarity, whether you are lighting a candle at home or joining us on Zoom.
